Scanning 35mm Slides

Scanning 35mm Slides

It is a fact that most people would generally prefer to choose color prints to make their printouts of film photographs and digital images, though it is true that scanning 35mm slide always proves to be a better option, whenever it can facilitate. If photographers and photo lab technicians reasonably consider this, they may realize why this is correct and make an ideal sense. Negatives and slides are the true images of any photograph, while color printouts in paper are just a reproduction of the original. It is a basic sense that originals are able to produce better quality than replicas. When printouts are taken out of negatives, these are nothing more than a duplicate copy and sometimes one even has a poor quality.

Even if the negatives are in good state, the papers which are used to take printouts are responsible for poor quality. However, enlarging the photo snaps into color prints will only diminish resolution to certain degree and this is true for any kind of paper used. Scanning 35mm slides are the best solution for solving problems of poor quality printouts as compared to print scanning.

Resolution

Most printouts are on the mercy of printer paper, even when designed to create quality pictures. This can often be a reason for poor image quality. When enlarging the image 5 to 10 times, the resolution quality weakens to a certain level and this may be due to inferior paper quality used as compared to negative. Then, one can use 35mm slides of high grade which has a resolution of 3000 dpi; the quality of paper though is very far from resolution of high quality. The grounds are useless when one is trying to enhance the resolution from snapshots scan to printouts and even poorer when printouts are taken on paper out of scan.

Quality of Printing Paper

Scanning 35mm film slides may be completely different; however it is always recommended using a good film scanner. When there is a scanner, negatives and good quality paper to work with, the quality of final images can be improved using a superior scanner. By using negatives, slides rather than prints and good quality photograph paper instead of usual printer paper, high quality images can be obtained. It is true that good quality photograph paper will not only serve in yielding great images, but it can be much better than using regular paper. Other point to remember is that the photographs should not be enlarged too much while scanning 35mm slides, as each time it is enlarged the quality and resolution diminishes.
