Are your photos damaged or faded? As opposed to scanning your photos, you can also scan the original 35mm negatives. By doing so, your scans will have much better results.
Photo prints are second generation images, so scanning negatives inherits the quality loss that occurs during film developing. Negatives are "master" copies, as they retain much greater detail and contrast than is possible with photo prints.
35mm negatives were first introduced in 1892 by Thomas Edison with stock film provided by George Eastman, and is still the most commonly used film for both still (analog) photography and motion pictures.
The photographic film is cut into strips with individual negative frames measuring 36 mm wide by 24mm height.
